Kozara Mountain is located in the North West of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a low "island" mountain situated between the Pannonian Plain in the North and the Dinarides in the South and bordered by the Sava, Sana, Una and Vrbas Rivers. Although the height of its peaks does not exceed 1000 m.a.s.l. it dominates the area with its height, immensity and beauty. Thanks to its dense deciduous and coniferous forests, hills, streams, flora and fauna Kozara is also known as "Beauty of Krajina".
The central part of Kozara mountain, covering an area of 3,907.54 ha, was designated a national park in 1967 in order to protect natural, cultural and historical values. Central position of the National Park is the flat plateau of Mrakovica (806 m.a.s.l.) which represents a National Park visitors assembling point.
