Kozara Mountain has become famous for the heroic struggle for freedom of the people from this area in World War II. A famous song “Stojanka, a mother from Knežopolje”, written by Skender Kulenović in 1942, stands as a poetic testimony of sufferings of the people from Kozara region:
“Hey Kozara Mountain, my green sister,
the other mother of my son Mlađen,
from afar you are seen,
and even further you are heard.....”
In the memory of deceased soldiers a memorial complex, which consists of the Monument, Memorial Wall and Museum, was built in the central part of the Kozara National Park- Mrakovica.
For those who want to learn more about the history of the area, the curators of the Museum of Mrakovica are on their disposal. History lessons and stories about Kozara events are organized within the Memorial Wall.
